This course will focus on nutrition considerations for CKD patient’s waitlisted for kidney transplantation. The influence of BMI and surrogates of BMI will be explored including risk/benefits of interventions for high BMI, as well as identifying and addressing issues with frailty in the waitlist population. The Clinical Practice Guideline on the Evaluation and Management of Candidates for Kidney Transplantation related to BMI and frailty for pre-kidney transplant will be presented, along with K/DOQI commentary.

This course is a focused journal article review of nutrition considerations for CKD patients in preparation for kidney transplantation (KT). The clinical and nutritional management of bariatric surgery, sarcopenic obesity, and frailty in pre-KT CKD patients will be discussed. The course will conclude with a review of the nutrition evaluation process for a kidney transplant.
